Stuck In Love

WHAT AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER
I think I chose a very bad time to watch such a deep film as my emotions are at a very sensitive level… But maybe that was to the films benefit as I can’t stop thinking about how lovely it was to watch, despite a few sad moments.
One thing I can’t get over is how real this film is. And I’m noticing that I keep talking about realism but I value films for their maintenance of realism as well as providing me with complete escapism… Too many isms. But what I ultimately mean is the actors and actresses abilities to turn a typical and predictable storyline into a convincing and authentic recording of actual life-like events.
Nat Wolff was one of my most popular actors in the film due to his ability to do what I just discussed. His awkwardness, nervousness and apprehension over his love interest in Kate just provided that glimpse into what it really is like in high school. And Rusty and Kate’s first conversation does not flow smoothly. Like no first conversation ever does. I just watched each scene, and every single member of the cast kept that sincerity that as an audience member I value greatly, and it influenced such serenity upon my viewing experience.
Furthermore, another element that I watched and reacted with gratitude was the believability of emotion and tears. In the scene wherein Louis is consoled by Samantha after his mothers death, his face becomes red with the strain of his crying, his veins erupt (metaphorically) on his forehead and he does not look as handsome as he usually does- r e a l i s t i c. I for one know I look horrendous when I cry. And it is just that effort and passion that the cast had for their characters that really drove out the message behind each characters story and made me connect and relate to each one to a significant depth.

I could complain about Tricia’s role as Bill’s ‘f*** buddy’ excuse the profanity. I don’t think it was necessary for his character to have her as that role, and the introduction of her appearing happily married with Bill on the side made me think there was going to be a whole new part of the film involving that. Personally, although it much added to the comedy of the film, Tricia’s character could have simply been a good friend of Bill’s and this would therefore avoid the impression of Bill’s character being negatively influenced by his involvement in a marital affair. Again, although comedic, I didn’t understand the inclusion of Bill stalking Erica’s house with her new husband. That was one feature that I questioned its likelihood in real life and thought to myself ‘hmm…slightly psychotic,' it just wouldn't happen in such a casual, light-hearted manner.
For the first film I have seen her in Lily Collins was a very inspiring actress, with a natural talent to play the character she was assigned. The same to Liana Liberato and Nat Wolff (changing actress’s and she to actor and he).
From start to finish I just felt warmed, it was a beautiful film to spend my evening watching, so for the over emotional wollies like me out there, here is the imdb link for Stuck In Love
Thank you for reading,
Love and hugs... George x
